UML leader Basnet says impeachment motion against Speaker Sapkota likely



KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Politburo member Mahesh Basnet has said that an impeachment motion against Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota is likely.

Speaking in an interaction organized by Reporters Club Nepal on Tuesday, Basnet said an impeachment motion against Sapkota was likely if he did not rectify his moves.

Basnet also claimed that the UML had 100 lawmakers on standby ready to put their signatures on the impeachment motion against the speaker, if such a situation arises. He viewed that the speaker should be able to play the role of a guardian in the House.

He also said the government announced the date of local elections on May 13 as a result of pressure from all sides.

Basnet insisted that the UML would reveal the party’s official position on the United States grant Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) only after the ruling party and the government formed a clear stance first.
