Maoist Centre to make its viewpoint clear on MCC

KATHMANDU: The Maoist Centre, which has been adamant on demanding amendment in the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact, has called a meeting of the central committee to come up with an official viewpoint on the US assistance project.

The meeting has been called at a time when a letter jointly signed by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” expressing the commitment to ratify the MCC was made public on Sunday.

The meeting to be held on February 11 and 12 will also deliberate political issues, including the local level election, the nomination of party’s office-bearers, among other issues, according to party central office secretary Shreeram Dhakal.

The meeting has been put off from time to time due to the increase of coronavirus cases.

Although the party held its Eighth General Convention in December, it has not nominated other party office-holders except the party’s Chair.

The meeting will also discuss the nomination of central members, the politburo, the Standing Committee, and the nomination of the office-bearers, among other issues.
