Ex-President Dr Yadav calls for efforts to bail out current stalemate

KATHMANDU: Former President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has asserted there has been consistent attacks on the Constitution that was framed by the people’s representatives in the last four years.

Launching a book ‘Marxism and Global Communist Movement’ authored by Chandradev Joshi here today, ex-President Dr Yadav said that the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had undermined the spirit of the Constitution by dissolving the parliament – the people’s institution.

“The President and the ex-Prime Minister had exerted efforts in collaboration to subvert the constitution twice. It was an assault on the main law of the land:, the former President added.

The institution that was founded by the Constitution on the backing of people’s resolution failed to make efforts for protecting the constitution, he complained. “Instead of putting efforts for consolidating the Constitution, its spirit was subjected to assault several times”, the first-ever President of the Federal Republic Democratic Nepal said.

Five political parties along with civil society, Nepali people and the judiciary protected the constitution that was frequently assaulted by the responsible people, he claimed.

Expressing concern on the anomalies surfaced in the judiciary of late, he said the country has not witnessed good indication ahead. “The court and parliament are passing through a bad time. What is the duty of the President to protect the present system? What is the government’s duty? The government has the executive responsibility. The forum which should give outlet tot all the problems has been taken hostage”, former President Dr Yadav further noted.

He asked for all to engage efforts to build an improved society by ending current political stalemate. Nepali people are fed up with ideological deviation and nurturing of corruption within the parties, Dr Yadav commented.

He said that it was the collaboration between the democratic and left forces that brought political change in Nepal.
