President Bhandari consulting with former security officials on Citizenship Bill

KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has continued what has been dubbed “intensive discussions” with experts and former security officials on the Citizenship Bill.

The Parliament sent the Citizenship Bill to the President for authentication.

Sources said the President’s Office has called more than 100 retired AIGs and IGPs of Nepal Police, Armed Police and National Investigation Department for consultation on the issue.

President Bhandari will discuss the issue with the former security officials on Thursday, a source said.

The President had earlier sent the Bill back to the Parliament for reconsideration after a series of discussions.

However, both Houses of Parliament sent it again to the President for approval.

There is a constitutional provision that the President should approve the Bill within 15 days.

Earlier, President Bhandari had consulted with retired army officials, constitutional experts and journalists on the Bill.
