Five non-resident Nepalis abandon Nepali citizenship

CHITWAN: Five non-resident Nepali people, who got foreign citizenship certificates, have abandoned their Nepali citizenship.

They proceeded with this effect from the District Administration Office, Chitwan, and from the Nepali Embassy in the respective country where they stay, said Assistance Chief District Officer, Tikaram Wagle.

This process goes through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal and Home Ministry before reaching the respective District Administration Office.

Similarly, citizenship certificates of six Nepali people were cancelled after they were found having acquired two citizenship cards each by furnishing fake documents, he said.

In the previous fiscal year, 2021/22, a total of 18,397 people from the district got citizenship certificates by descent and 51 the naturalized, according to the Information Officer for the District Administration Office, Aananda Bamsha Neupane.

And, 12,017 people have got duplicate citizenship cards.
