Parliamentary elections most probably to be held on November 18

KATHMANDU: If everything goes according to the Election Commission’s (EC) plan, elections to the House of Representatives (HoR) and provincial elections will be held on November 18 this year.

Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya met Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Wednesday and proposed November 18 to hold both the elections.

The Thapaliya-led delegation proposed the date for the elections to the provincial and federal parliament.

PM Deuba said he would discuss the proposal in the meeting of the Council of Ministers and decide on it at the earliest.

Election Commission Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Poudel said the government fixes the election date upon the recommendation of the Election Commission.

The Commission also urged the government to provide essentials for electronic voting by August 17.

The term of the members of the federal and provincial parliaments is expiring on December 8, 2022.

The Commission has intensified the preparation for holding the election to the provincial and federal parliaments on a single date.
