NEPSE reform Struggle Committee members arrested

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested the members of Struggle Committee advocating reforms in the stock market as they reached Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) office to demonstrate, in Kathmandu, on Tuesday.

Police arrested them for protesting with black bands on their arms in a protest-restricted area.

Police arrested Coordinator of the struggle committee Tilak Koirala, members SP Chaulagai and Nani Babu Kharel, among others.

They were arrested after police warned them that the area chosen by them for protest was a restricted area and any kind of demonstration there was prohibited.

The investors argued with police that they should be allowed to carry on with the peaceful protest, referring to past when they had held demonstrations on NEPSE premises.

Police asked the protesters to move to Maitighar Mandala to carry out the demonstration.

But as the protesters ignored police warning, the arrests were made.

The Struggle Committee had earlier handed over a memorandum to Nepal Securities Board of Nepal Chairman Ramesh Hamal on Monday.

The committee has started agitation putting forward various 19 points demands.

Coordinator Koirala has warned of going on a hunger strike from June 15 if the demands are not met by then.
