Maoist Center nominates 50 members to Central Committee



KATHMANDU: The CPN-Maoist Center has nominated 50 members to the Central Committee.

A meeting of the Maoist Central Committee held in Kathmandu on Monday nominated only 50 out of the 97 members proposed by party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’. Among the nominated today are Prachanda’s daughter Ganga Dahal, son-in-law Jeevan Acharya.

Maoist leaders said they could not reach an agreement on the rest of the names in the meeting. The leaders said the number of central members would be only 297 for now and the rest would be added later.

Similarly, the Maoist Center has provisioned for 25 percent of alternate central members.

Leader Barshaman Pun said it has been decided to pick the office bearers, standing committee and politburo from the next Central Committee meeting.

Maoist leader Janardan Sharma said that the Central Committee meeting had assigned provincial in-charges. Likewise, further discussions would be held on the issue of Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) in the next meeting slated for June 3, he said.

Similarly, the Maoists have also decided to form a task force for electoral coordination at the local level.

Six members from Prachanda’s family in Central Committee

Earlier, when 236 members of the Central Committee were announced on January 21, 2022, four members of Prachanda’s family were picked as Central members. At that time, Maoist chair himself, his daughter Renu Dahal, brother Narayan Dahal and daughter-in-law Bina Magar were elected to the Central Committee.

Today, daughter Ganga Dahal, son-in-law Jeevan Acharya have been nominated Central members.
