KATHMANDU: Nepal Bar Association (NBA) President Chandeshwar Shrestha has opined that the Bar’s movement has initiated the purification in the judiciary.

Organizing a press conference on the occasion of 100 days of starting of the movement for the purification in the judiciary Monday, he said the hearing of cases through the draw process is significant development since the start of the movement by NBA.

NBA had launched its movement on October 31 calling for, among other things, allocation of hearing of cases through lottery and banishing corruption in the judiciary. The Bar has been taking ahead its movement by virtual means even during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Although the hearing of cases has started through the draw system as a result of the NBA’s agitation, the NBA president said, the judiciary has become a hostage of indecision as the meeting of the Judicial Council and the Judicial Service Commission have not been held.

President of the Supreme Court Bar Association, Dr Purna Man Shakya said the Bar’s movement was not targeted against any individual but rather was for reforms of the entire judiciary. He stressed that the judges should pay attention to delivering fair justice administration by eliminating corruption from the judiciary.

Noting that the movement was for raising the credibility of the judiciary, the NBA said the movement would be continued until the judiciary is purified.
