KATHMANDU: The meeting of the Judicial Council scheduled for Monday has been postponed.

Appointment of judges was on the agenda of the meeting.

Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana had called the meeting for today but was postponed due to the inability of council member Ram Prasad Bhandari to attend due to ill health, according to a press release issued by the Council Spokesperson Man Bahadur Karki.

The council is responsible for recruitment, transfer, and promotion of judges and other judicial staff.

CJ Rana, Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Dilendra Badu, Senior Supreme Court Justice Dipak Kumar Karki, Senior Advocate Ram Prasad Shrestha and Bhandari are members of the Judicial Council.

On Sunday, the meeting of the Judicial Service Commission was deferred as none of the members showed up for meeting.

CJ Rana is embroiled in a controversy over seeking a cabinet berth for restoration of parliament and other graft allegations and Nepal Bar Association has been calling for his exit for over three months now.
