Dr Baburam Bhattarai, Mahendra Raya Yadav picked chairmen of Nepal Samajbadi Party

Dr. Baburam Bhattarai and Mahendra Raya Yadav have been elected chairmen of Nepal Samajbadi Party.

A meeting of the party held in Lalitpur on Saturday picked Bhattarai and Yadav as chairpersons of the party’s Central Committee. However, the position of the Federal Council chairman, as envisioned by the party’s statute, is vacant.

The meeting also elected Ganga Narayan Shrestha as party co-chairman, Durga Sob, Hisila Yami and Bhakta Bahadur Shah as vice-chairpersons, and Ramesh Yadav as general secretary.

The meeting inducted nine other leaders to the central executive committee.

Discussion underway to ensure voting rights for Nepalis living abroad: Chair Dahal

CPN Maoist Center Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said discussion is underway to ensure voting rights for Nepalis living abroad.

He said so while inaugurating the Nepal Festival, 2022, organized at Fukuoka of Japan.

He shared that knowledge, skill, experience and capital of Nepalis living abroad could be mobilized in nation building, adding they are effortful for the same.

Nepal sees 660 new coronavirus cases, one death in past 24 hours

Nepal recorded a total of 660 new cases of coronavirus and one COVID-related death in the past 24 hours as of Saturday.

Out of the confirmed cases, 326 were detected through the RT-PCR method and 334 through the Antigen method.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 4,682 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours.

Of them, 1,942 samples were tested through RT-PCR and 2,740 through the Antigen method.

Melamchi folks urged to remain cautious

Heavy rainfall has taken place in Ghumthang, Dhap, Nakate, and other areas in Sindhupalchok district.

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has issued a warning of flash floods in Melamchi, Balefi and other small rivers of the district as heavy rainfall has been recorded in this area for the last three to six hours.

The Flood Forecasting Division of the Department has asked the residents of the area to remain on high alert, saying that there is risk of landslides in the sloping land.

Electoral alliance a must for protection of constitution: Dr. Shashank Koirala

Nepali Congress central committee member Dr Shashank Koirala has said alliance among the ruling coalition parties is necessary for upcoming elections to the House of Representatives and Province Assemblies.

Talking to media persons here today, he shared although the NC can fight alone in the election, it was necessary to forge electoral alliance for the protection of constitution, development and stability of the country.

The NC leader opined, “There is also a coalition government. It will be easier to go for election making alliance.”

He, however, claimed that 100 seats should be allocated for NC in the election if alliance is forged in the elections.
