Helambu-Melamchi road obstructed by landslide



MELAMCHI: Helambu-Melamchi and Panthpokhari roads have been obstructed by flooding and a landslide caused by continuous rain.

Flooding at Gyalthum, Chanaute, Talamarang and Simkhet has blocked the Helambu-Melamchi road disrupting transportation. As a result, vehicles heading to Kathmandu have been stuck.

Similarly, flooding swept away two excavators parked along the road at Melamchi-11 and damaged the Melamchi drinking water project, said local people.

Likewise, a landslip obstructed the Bhotechaur-Kaule road and the road at Tipeni of Panchpokhari Thangpal Rural Municipality-8.

Nineteen houses in the bazaar area are at risk of being washed away, said Panchpokhari Thangpal Rural Municipality chair Tasi Lama. The activities to remove landslide debris are underway, he said. Five houses, a school and road at Helambu-5 are at high risk.

Details of the loss caused by flooding have yet to be collected, said Helambu Rural Municipality chair Nima Gyaljen Sherpa.
