Finance Minister Sharma steps down



KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Janardan Sharma resigned from the post on Wednesday afternoon.

Speaking at a meeting of the House of Representatives today, Minister Sharma announced his resignation.

Sharma has been accused of manipulating the tax rate by admitting unauthorized persons while preparing the budget.

The House of Representatives had today formed an 11-member inquiry committee to probe Sharma.

“I welcome and thank the inquiry committee that has been formed on the initiative of the speaker,” Sharma said from the rostrum of parliament, adding, “I resign from the post of the Minister to facilitate the investigation.”

He claimed that all allegations made against him were false and ill intent.
