KATHMANDU: The ruling five-party alliance is set to formulate common criteria for candidates contesting the local elections.

Today’s meeting of the Local Election Preparation and Monitoring Committee held at the Prime Minister’s official residence on Wednesday decided to make minimum criteria for the selection of common candidates even though the parties have their own method of selection of candidates.

The meeting of the Committee has directed the Provincial Coordinating Committee to immediately submit a joint report on the nature of electoral alliance at the local level, the basis of electoral coordination and various other issues.

According to Ram Chandra Poudel, the senior leader of the Nepali Congress, and the coordinator of the Committee, additional time has been provided till April 9 to submit the report.
