PM Deuba holds telephone conversation Maoist Chair Prachanda after correspondence leaked

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has had a telephone conversation with CPN-Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ after correspondence on Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) leaked.

PM Deuba talked with Maoist Chair ‘Prachanda’ and another Maoist leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha over the phone after the correspondence (letters) exchanged between them and the MCC was leaked in the media Sunday.

According to sources, the Maoist leaders were furious about the leak and wondered how did the letters get to the media. PM Deuba, denying any involvement in the leak, told the leaders he, too, was clueless.

Meanwhile, the two leaders are also to meet at 4 pm today to clear misunderstandings and take a decisive step regarding MCC.

Sources said firstly, Prachanda had told Deuba that his party would make a decision on MCC after Maoist General Convention. After the convention, he urged Deuba to put MCC on hold till elections. Prachanda’s postponement had also upset the PM.

PM Deuba and Prachanda, in their letter, had sought more time to ratify the MCC Nepal Compact from the parliament. In a reply to the leaders’ letter, MCC also reminded that time is running out.
