Ruling coalition forms 11-member task force to finalize sharing of seats

KATHMANDU: The ruling coalition has formed a task force to oversee distribution of seats in the upcoming federal and provincial elections.

A meeting of top leaders of the ruling alliance in Baluwatar on Friday has formed an 11-member task force to decide seat-sharing among partners following the decision to forge electoral alliance.

The task force includes Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa, leaders Krishna Sitaula and Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, Maoist Center leaders Barsha Man Pun and Dev Gurung, CPN Unified Socialist leaders Pramesh Hamal and Bedu Ram Bhusal, Janata Samajbadi Party’s Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav and Rakam Chemjong, and Rastriya Janamorcha’s Himal Puri and Anand Sharma, according to sources.

The task force has been asked to oversee sharing of seats by mid-August.

Minister for Communication and Information Technology Karki, however, did not acknowledge the task force. He said that the coalition only decided to forge electoral alliance for the election to be held on November 20 as of now.

The ruling coalition had also formed task forces at three levels to finalize alliance in the recent local election.
