Top leaders intensify campaigns as polling day nears

SUDURPASCHIM: Top leaders of major political parties have stepped up their election-focused mobility given the upcoming May 13 local election.

Nepali Congress (NC) President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is scheduled to address election assembly to be held at Dhangadhi on May 9 and his hometown, Dadeldhura, on May 10.

Likewise, CPN-UML char KP Sharma Oli is also set to address election campaigns in Kailali and Kanchanpur today, shared UML leader and lawmaker Narad Muni Rana.

NC central leader Dr. Arzoo Rana Deuba reached Dadeldhura on Wednesday after attending election campaigns, organized by ruling coalition parties in Lamkichuha, Tikapur, and Godawari municipality of Kailali.

Ruling coalition parties including Nepali Congress and CPN (Unified Socialist) have forged an electoral alliance for the posts of mayor/chair and deputy mayor/vice-chair in 13 local level governments of the Kailali district.

Candidates from different political parties, including UML, have registered their single candidacy for different posts.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the electoral alliance for key posts at the local level, cadres of the Nepali Congress and Maoist Centre have registered their independent candidacies.
