Bird flu spreads in 13 districts, govt appeals for high vigilance



KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development has urged the farmers to adopt high vigilance saying that the bird flu infection has already spread in 13 districts in the country.

According to the Department of Livestock Services (DoLS), bird flu has been reported in 13 districts of four states in the last two months.

“The infection, which was first seen in Sunsari on January 25, has now spread to 13 districts in four states,” Director General of DoLS, Ram Nandan Tiwari said.

According to Tiwari, infections have been reported in Province 1, Madhesh Province, Bagmati Province and Gandaki districts provinces.

According to the latest details, the infection has been confirmed in Morang, Udaypur and Sunsari of Province 1, Bara, Parsa and Dhanusha of Madhesh Province, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Chitwan, Makwanpur and Sindhupalchowk of Bagmati Province and Kaski of Gandaki State.

The department has also instructed the entrepreneurs not to move the livestock from the place where the infection was found. It has urged all stakeholders to keep high vigilance on the poultry business itself.
