KATHMANDU: ‘Jumla-Rara Ultra Marathon 2078’ has been scheduled to take place on coming April 9.
The Karnali Sports Club is organizing the 49-Km race which, as the organizer said, aims to promote a trekking route from Jumla to Rara Lake of Mugu and enhance the identity of Karnali Province through the means of sports.
Club Chair Saroj Shahi shared information about this by organizing press meet in Kathmandu Friday. As he said, registration for participants opens from today.
This is the third season of the event. It will start from Khalanga, the district headquarters of Jumla, located at an altitude of 2,300 meters above seal level and will pass through the Danfe Lek, a mountain pass (3,300 meters), Chuchchemara pass (4,100m) before concluding near Rara Lake (2,890m).
A professional participant is expected to take five to seven hours to complete the trek which requires two days for ordinary people. Last time, the event was attended by 347 people and this time, too, the organizers hoped to see the the same number of people participating.
Last year, the winner bagged cash prize of Rs 100,000 and this time the prize amount will be more than that, but has not been fixed yet. The event is expected to cost five million. The participant registration fee is Rs 4,500 for foreigners and Rs 1,600 for Nepalis. The deadline for registration is till April 7.
