Demolition campaign in Udayapur takes place

UDAYAPUR: Demolition of illegally built structures at Gaighat bazaar of Triyuga Municipality-11 and 12 has taken place.

The campaign to pull down illegally built structures in the public land has begun, said the municipality mayor Basanta Kumar Basnet.

The maps of the structures were checked by the municipality’s engineers before destroying them, he said.

The demolition took place in the areas through Triyuga Bus Park, the road behind Triyuga Model Secondary School, Loktantrik Chowk, Seto Bridge at Gaighat, PG Chowk at Old Gaighat along the Madan Bhandari Highway and Baruwa Bus Park, said deputy mayor Maheshwori Rai, adding that a notice was issued before two weeks ago asking for the removal of the illegally built structures.

The municipality resorted to the move after the two-week notice expired, she said.

Similarly, the footpath encroached by vendors on either sides of the road between Traffic Chowk of Gaighat bazaar and PG Chowk was cleared, said the municipality.
