Mayors vow to make Kathmandu Valley bicycle-friendly



KATHMANDU: The mayors of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Kirtipur have jointly expressed their commitment to make the Kathmandu Valley a bicycle-friendly city.

Addressing a bicycle rally organized by www.khabarhub.com in collaboration with Cycle Culture Movement on the occasion of World Bicycle and Environment Day this morning, Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Balendra Shah, Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City Chiribabu Maharjan and Mayor of Kirtipur Municipality Raj Kumar Nakarmi expressed their commitment to take necessary steps to make the Valley a bicycle-friendly city.

Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Balendra Shah said that a necessary study would be started from the metropolis immediately into the work of bicycle-friendly roads and infrastructure in Kathmandu.

He said that the Kathmandu Metropolitan City needs a bicycle-friendly capital to address issues including the environment.

Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City Chiribabu Maharjan said that efforts have been made to make the city bicycle-friendly.

He expressed his commitment to make many places of Lalitpur Metropolitan City bicycle-friendly in his second term.

Hundreds of enthusiastic cyclists joined the campaign to show their solidarity to encourage people to use cycles in the Kathmandu Valley.
