KATHMANDU: CPN-Maoist Center leader Matrika Yadav has said the US grant Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) was approved as per the decision of the party’s eighth general convention.

Talking to the media before the Central Committee meeting of the party on Friday, Yadav said, “The eighth general convention had decided to ratify MCC with amendments. The same has happened.”

He said that there was no reason to object to MCC ratification that took place as per the decision of the general convention.

Yadav added some leaders were dissatisfied with MCC ratification as their personal interests were not fulfilled. “Baburam used to raise the issue of institutional governance, rules, and procedures whenever his post was in danger. Even now, if his demands are not addressed, he will start talking about systems and procedures. This is extreme individualism,” said Yadav.

Some leaders, including Maoist leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha, remained skeptical over MCC’s approval, even when an explanatory note was attached to the agreement, on February 27.
