Fire guts property worth Rs 85 million



KATHMANDU: Property worth millions gutted to the cylinder after a fire broke out on Thursday in a shoe factory at Mechinagar Municipality in Jhapa district.

Spokesperson of District Police Office, Jhapa, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Basanta Pathak said property equal to Rs 85 million was destroyed in the fire that occurred in SS Footwear.

The fire was brought under control after five hours of efforts from the security personnel and local people. It is said it took a long time to douse the fire as the factory had a stock of rubber, chemical, and other flammable goods.

Pathak added a total of 11 fire engines from Jhapa, Morang, and even the Indian cities were mobilized to extinguish the fire.
