Two arrested for stealing ancient sculptures in Lalitpur

KATHMANDU: Lalitpur Metropolitan Police Circle has arrested two persons on the charge of stealing historical statues.

The arrested have been identified as National Yonjan, 23, of Doramba, Ramechhap, and Sanulal Maharjan, 24, of Lalitpur Metropolitan City-20.

Police investigation revealed that they have stolen an idol of Lord Narayan from Tangal-based waterspout in Lalitpur-12 on the night of December 13 and a Buddha statue that was carved in stone from Panchayin temple in Taukhel, Godavari, on the night of December 15.

Police said they obtained a five-day custody of the arrested from Lalitpur District Court and are further looking into the case.
