NC leader Koirala calls meeting of leaders close to him

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has called leaders close to him for a discussion.

A leader said that Dr. Koirala had summoned those who had been central member candidates in the party’s 14th general convention for discussion at 3 pm on Tuesday.

Of the 13 candidates vying for as many posts of office-bearers in the NC 14th convention from the Koirala faction, only four were elected. Four office bearers elected from the Koirala panel are NC Vice-president Dhan Raj Gurung, General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa, and joint general secretaries Badri Pandey and Jeevan Pariyar.

However, other leaders of Koirala camp, who were defeated, have yet to secure the nomination to the Central Working Committee (CWC). The party president receives the prerogative to nominate as many as 33 members to the CWC.

Meanwhile, NC President Deuba has already nominated 13 leaders to the CWC, including those losing election from his camp.

Dr. Koirala automatically became a central member as per NC statute despite losing the presidency to President Deuba.
