Rastriya Swatantra Party emphasizes directly-elected PM

KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party led by Rabi Lamichhane in its “commitment letter” unveiled today has emphasized “directly-elected” Prime Minister.

Lamichhane and other leaders of the party unveiled what has been dubbed a “pledge letter” in Kathmandu on Thursday.

The party has fielded candidacies for the House of Representatives (HoR).

However, it has not fielded any candidate for the Provincial Assembly election.

According to general secretary Mukul Dhakal, the party has emphasized a “directly –elected” prime minister, and an independent (non-political) President.

The letter also mentioned that a directly elected prime minister is necessary for a stable government.

The party has, however, remained silent on the issue of federalism.
