Ruling coalition agrees to hold elections on November 20

The top leaders of the five-party ruling coalition have agreed to hold provincial and federal elections on November 20.

According to sources, the election will be announced at the cabinet meeting tomorrow (Thursday).

Earlier, the Election Commission had suggested holding the election on November 18, but Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba had been mulling over holding it on November 4.

Chinese Ambassador seeks Nepal’s support on “one-China principle”

Chinese Embassy in Nepal has anticipated Nepal’s continued commitment to the “One-China Policy”, and understands China’s legitimate position.

Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Hou Yanqi expressed the confidence that the Government of Nepal and Nepali people would continue to abide by the “One-China Principle”.

Her statement comes in the wake of U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan.

NID should come under Home Ministry’s purview: Gagan Thapa

Nepali Congress (NC) General Minister Gagan Thapa has demanded that the National Investigation Department (NID) should come under the purview of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Speaking at a meeting of the State Affairs Committee under the House of Representatives (HoR) on Wednesday, Thapa said that the NID should come under the Ministry of Home Affairs and not under the Prime Minister’s Office.

Passengers disembarked after report of “terrorist onboard” NA plane

All passengers on an aircraft of Nepal Airlines were disembarked and checked at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) after receiving “information” about the presence of terrorists on the plane.

It was reported that terrorists were inside the aircraft which was about to fly to Mumbai with 141 passengers from TIA on Wednesday afternoon.

NC leader Nidhi meets BJP foreign affairs dept Chief Chauthaiwale in Delhi

Nepali Congress (NC) leader Bimalendra Nidhi and Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP)  foreign department chief Vijay Chauthaiwale held talks in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Leader Nidhi, who arrived in New Delhi, India, met Chauthaiwale at BJP office in New Delhi on Tuesday morning.

Finnish ambassador calls on President Bhandari

Ambassador of Finland to Nepal, Pertti Anttinen, paid a courtesy call on President Bidya Devi Bhandari at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, Shital Niwas, today.

In the meeting discussions were held on bilateral relations between the two countries and on matters of mutual interest, shared Sagar Acharya, the spokesperson at the Office of the President.

22 arrested with large quantity of drugs

The police arrested 22 people with banned drugs from different places in the valley. The Narcotics Control Bureau of Nepal Police, Koteshwar, arrested 18 people including four women in 19 days from July 16 to August 3.

Nepal sees 915 new coronavirus cases in past 24 hours

Nepal recorded a total of 915 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours as of Wednesday.

Out of the confirmed cases, 590 were detected through the RT-PCR method and 325 through the Antigen method.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 6,002 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours.

NEPSE goes down by 6.71 points Wednesday

Nepal Stock Exchange index declined by 6.71 points to 2186.77 on Wednesday, the fourth trading day of the week.

The sensitive index, which measures the turnover of large and powerful companies, also decreased by 0.64 points and stopped at 420.49 points today.
