NA directs govt to review statute of limitation on sexual crime



KATHMANDU: The National Assembly (NA) has directed the government to accept and implement in practice the resolution on ‘review of statute of limitation on complaints relating to sexual crime’.

Nepali Congress lawmaker Kamala Pant presented motion in the parliament which was seconded by lawmakers Dr Bimala Rai Paudyal, Bimala Ghimire, Ganga Kumari Belbase, Pramila Kumari, Madan Kumari Saha, Tul Prasad Bishwokarma, Dr Khimlal Devkota, and Sekhar Kumar Singh.

The proposal was endorsed by the NA meeting unanimously after the discussion.

Taking part in the proposal discussion, lawmakers Suresh Kumar Ale, Bhairab Sundar Shrestha, Sumitra BC, Goma Devi Timilsina, Dil Kumari Rawal Thapa, Jayanti Devi Rai, Urmila Aryal and Narapati Lohar demanded the removal of statute limitation on complaints of sexual crime.

In response, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Govinda Prasad Sharma informed that study was on for the reform in law relating to sexual crime. Efforts were underway to address the lawmakers’ demand on statute of limitation, he added.

The National Assembly will meet next on June 7.
