The Nepali Congress (NC) has planned to hold election rallies in 10 major cities of the country starting Wednesday.

The rallies will be addressed by top central leaders, including NC President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.

Ruling coalition to hold joint rally in Bharatpur metropolis on Thursday

The ruling five-party alliance is scheduled to hold a joint rally in Bharatpur on Thursday.

CPN-Maoist Center Chitwan Coordinator Ram Chandra Adhikari said that the rally to be held at Hakim Chowk in Bharatpur would be addressed by the top leaders of ruling alliance.

Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and CPN-Unified Socialist Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal, among others, are to address the gathering.

India’s PM Narendra Modi to visit Nepal on Buddha Jayanti

Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi is visiting Nepal on the occasion of Buddha Jayanti, Indian media outlets have reported.

Indian newspaper The Hindu has reported that Prime Minister Modi is making preparations to visit the Himalayan nation before May 16.

Oli claims UML’s victory needed for nation’s development

CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli has claimed that his party’s victory was necessary in the local level polls for the country’s development and to defend democracy and sovereignty.

Addressing election rallies in different locations in Jhapa on Tuesday, Oli said there was a wave of the people in favor of UML.

Nepal progresses in Freedom of Press Index

Nepal has made a notable progress in the Press Freedom Index.

According to the World Press Freedom Index launched by the Reporters without Borders on Tuesday, Nepal is placed in the 76th position among a list of 180 countries. Last year, Nepal was ranked 106th.
