KATHMANDU: Nepal Chemists and Druggists Association (NCDA) has warned to stop import of drugs from April 14.
Stating that the government has not listened to the demand, it has decided to stop the import of medicines from April 14.
The meeting held on Saturday decided to stop the import saying that no hearing has been held regarding the demand submitted earlier, said Mrigendra Mehar Shrestha, president of the association.
Shrestha said that there is a demand for adjustment according to the MRP price of the exporting country.
“According to the Country of Origin of imported drugs, the MRP in Nepal should be renewed in the same MRP,” said Shrestha, adding “The government has fixed the price of 96 drugs. We can not import and sell at such rate.”
He accused the Department of leading to uncomfortable situation by forcing the submission of Schedule 7.
Earlier, the association had handed over a memorandum with a 30-day ultimatum to Director General of the Department of Drug Management Bharat Bhattarai on March 10 to address the demand.
The union had submitted a 25-point demand to the Ministry of Health, Department of Pharmaceutical Services.
Since then, we have drawn the attention of all government bodies. We informed about our demand but no hearing has been held so far. That is why we have taken this step, ”said Shrestha.
About 55 percent of the medicines sold and distributed in Nepal are imported from abroad. It contains life-saving, ICU drugs.
