Govt to ensure the rights of minorities and marginalized: PM Deuba



KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has wished happiness, peace, good health and progress to all the Sherpa brothers and sisters on the occasion of Gyalpo Lhosar, the New Year 2149 Xu-Pho-Taklo.

Gyalpo Lhosar is celebrated by the Nepali Buddhist and Himalayan Sherpa community since ancient times.

Stating that Nepal is a country rich in ethnic, linguistic, religious and cultural diversity, the Prime Minister has, in a message, said that respecting of this diversity by people of all castes and religions is the fundamental and unique identity of Nepal and Nepalis.

Prime Minister Deuba noted that the government had ratified the International Labor Organization Convention on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples on September 13, 2007 and was committed to implementing the Convention accordingly. He said that the government has always been active in ensuring the rights of minorities and marginalized groups and for the protection and promotion of Nepali religious and cultural festivals and traditions.

In the message, he has also expressed the confidence that the New Year 2149 BS of the Sherpa community would further strengthen national unity by enhancing mutual harmony and brotherhood among the Nepalis.
