Govt formation: Leaders intensify meetings

While the counting of votes is underway, political leaders have intensified meetings to form a new government.

Parties, including Nepali Congress (NC), Maoist Center, United Socialist, Loktantrik Samajbadi Party, and Rastriya Janamorcha have reiterated the need for giving continuity to the five-party alliance.

According to a leader monitoring the activities within the coalition said it may take more than one month to form a new government.

We have no desire to seek help from foreigners: Kathmandu Mayor Balen

Kathmandu Metropolis Mayor Balendra Shah (Balen) has clarified that he has not sought any money from any diplomatic missions as grant or donations.

Replying to CPN-UML leader Bhim Rawal’s aggressive comment against Mayor Balen’s meeting with US Ambassador to Nepal, the Kathmandu Mayor said that unlike the political leaders, he (Balen) has fulfilled all formalities while meeting with the foreign representatives and has not done anything that hurts the dignity of nation.

Nepal sees six new coronavirus cases in past 24 hours

Nepal recorded a total of six new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours as of Friday.

All six cases were detected through the RT-PCR method.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 898 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours.

Next govt to focus on ending poverty, unemployment: Minister Karki

Newly elected member of the House of Representatives Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, who is also the Minister for Communications and Information Technology, said the next government would focus on resolving problems of poverty and unemployment in the country.

The next government would be formed under the leadership of the Nepali Congress, and it would take care of these issues, he said while addressing an event organized on Friday on the occasion of the 12th anniversary of Saptakoshi Multiple Campus at Barahachhetra Municipality-7 in Sunsari district on Friday.

14 leaders of ‘above 70 category’ get elected in HoR

Although the issue of transformation of power and representation of the young generation was strongly raised in the general election, 14 leaders above70 years have managed to get elected to the post of House of Representatives (HoR) member this time as well.

There are 165 HoR member seats under first-past-the-post system of election.

The 70-year-old group of newly elected members of HoR comprises the leaders from all main streaming parties including Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML, CPN-Maoist Center, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP).

A dozen parties ensure representation in parliament

The counting of votes under the House of Representatives and Province Assembly elections held on November 20 is in the last stages.

The results for 162 seats out of 165 under the first-past-the-post (FPTP) electoral system towards the House of Representatives are available so far. Counting is under way in Syangja electoral constituency number 2, Dolakha constituency number 1 and Bajura.
