Govt policy positive in making foot wear sector self-reliant



KATHMANDU: The Footwear Manufacturers Association of Nepal has welcomed the government policy to make the country self-sufficient in the footwear sector.

Issuing a press release, Association Chairperson Naniraj Ghimire hailed the government policy reflected in the budget for the fiscal year 2022/23 in discouraging import and promoting domestic production, marketing, and use.

“The campaigns, such as ‘Made in Nepal, Make in Nepal’, in collaboration with the private sector for export promotion has been well-reflected in the budget”, he said, adding the campaigns along with policy measures to make the footwear sector self-reliant has added motivation to the entrepreneurs of this sector.

Among others, subsidy to the export of domestic footwear production, special concession on the bank loan for footwear enterprises, and budget appropriation for basic training for advancing employment opportunities are positively reflected in the annual budget, the press release stated.
