Wildlife officials of Nepal, India meet for ideas sharing



KATHMANDU: A coordination meeting between wildlife official from Nepal and India concluded recently.

The participants shared views on measures for management in wildlife movement, containment of human-wildlife conflict, curbing of poaching and enhancement of mutual cooperation in the related field were discussed during the meeting, according to CNP Chief conservation officer Haribhakta Acharya who led the Nepali delegation in the meeting.

Besides, the meeting stressed on the need of immediate dialogue among the officials concerned of both countries in case of the emergence of any issue on the border areas in regard with the conservation of forest and wildlife so as to find a prompt solution. The inter-border level regular meeting among the wildlife officials from the neighbors would be organized up to three times in a year in the past. Since the past two years, they were meeting virtually (on Zoom) due to COVID-19 pandemic. This time, they met physically.

The meeting was organized at India’s Valmeeki Tiger Reserve. The meeting was co-hosted by the Chitwan National Park and the Reserve.

The Indian team was led by Reserve field director Dr K Neshmani. Representatives from the Parsa National Park, Nawalparasi (Bardghat-Susta East), the Division Forest Office, the World Wildlife Fund and National Trust for Nature Conservation including others participated in the meeting
