Govt forms new ad-hoc committee in Red Cross by dissolving old one

KATHMANDU: The government has formed a new ad-hoc committee in Nepal Red Cross Society by dissolved the old one led by Netra Prasad Timisina.

The cabinet meeting held on December 29 formed a new ad hoc committee under the leadership of Sudarshan Prasad Nepal with 29 members.

Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens Uma Regmi said a new ad hoc committee was formed, in accordance with court decision, as the term of the Timisina-led old committee had expired. She added that the term of the new ad hoc committee was three months.

Issuing a statement on Sunday, chair of the dissolved ad-hoc committee Timisina slammed the government for injecting anomalies of national politics into humanitarian organization such as the Red Cross. “The underlying anger emanating from national politics has been given space in Red Cross,” the statement read.

Earlier, the KP Sharma Oli-led government had dissolved Nepal Red Cross’ committee led by Sanjeev Thapa and formed an ad hoc committee headed by Timisina.
