Maoist General Convention: Closed Session resumes

KATHMANDU: The closed session on the 8th day of the Eighth General Convention of the CPN-Maoist Center has resumed nearly one hour late on Sunday evening.

The closed session has started after the Standing Committee meeting. The closed session was postponed till 4 pm in an attempt to finalize the Central Committee members by consensus.

A meeting of the party’s Standing Committee was held at Nepal Academy to reach a consensus.

Though it was said that the leadership would be selected by consensus, the party seems under pressure to hold election for central members as there are many aspirants.

According to the party statute passed in the closed session on Saturday, the party’s Central Committee will be elected through mixed electoral system with 50 percent open category and 50 percent fully proportional.

The Central Committee will have 299 members.
