UML unveils election manifesto

CPN-UML, the main opposition party in the country, has unveiled its election manifesto on Tuesday.

UML Chairman KP Oli released the election manifesto digitally at a special ceremony held at Hotel Yak and Yeti on Durbarmarg, Kathmandu.

The manifesto which comprises 20,000 words has included Chairman Oli’s six queries.

UML has mentioned four resolutions in the manifesto: good governance, development, prosperity, and independence. The party has also claimed to develop the Nepali economy as an emerging economy of the globe.

UML claims to aggrandize GDP worth Rs 100 trillion

CPN-UML has made public its election manifesto claiming to aggrandize the Gross Domestic Production (GDP) to Rs 100 trillion in next five years.

Currently Nepal’s GDP is worth Rs 48 trillion. The party has aimed at reaching the Per Capital Income of Nepali people to USD 2,400 within next five years, the party said.

The manifesto has set a target to primarily reach the economic growth rate of five percent and then make it double digit within five years. The party has also claimed to develop the Nepali economy as an emerging economy of the globe.

India gifts 200 vehicles to Nepal for conduct of elections

India has provided over 200 vehicles to Nepal for use during the upcoming elections.

In a ceremony organized today, Ambassador of India to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, on behalf of Government of India, handed over 200 vehicles to Finance Minister Janardan Sharma as a gift of India for logistical support to various Nepali institutions for conduct of elections.

These vehicles are being handed over at the request of Government of Nepal for utilization during elections, of which 120 vehicles are for the utilization by security forces and 80 vehicles are for the utilization by Election Commission of Nepal.

Supreme Court stays Election Commission’s decision to scrap Dr. Karki’s candidacy

The Supreme Court has ordered the Election Commission not to scrap the candidacy of Rastriya Swotantra Party candidate in Lalitpur-3 Dr Tosima Karki as of now.

A single bench of Judge Kumar Chudal issued an interim order not to immediately implement the Election Commission’s decision to cancel Dr Karki’s candidature, said apex court Assistant Spokesperson Devendra Dhakal.

The Supreme Court has also sought a written reply from the Election Commission on this issue.

US Ambassador Thompson holds ‘courtesy meeting’ with Prachanda

US Ambassador to Nepal, Dean R. Thompson held a courtesy meeting with Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda on Tuesday morning.

The newly-appointed Ambassador US Thompson reached Prachanda’s Khumaltar-based residence and held talks on bilateral issues, according to Prachanda’s secretariat.

During the meeting, the US Ambassador and Prachanda discussed the relationship between the two countries over the years, Nepali politics, and economic development.

EC seeks nine clarifications against code of conduct violation in a day

The Election Commission (EC) has sought nine clarifications in a day acting on the complaints related to violation of code of conduct issued for upcoming federal and provincial parliamentary elections.

The commission has sent separate letters to those bearing beneficial posts, election candidates, local representatives, teachers and government employees, among others seeking clarification within 24 hours.

Urging all sides to comply with the code of conduct, Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari said investigation and action would be initiated acting on the complaints and information related to code of conduct breach were received.

The EC has sought 60 clarifications out of a total of 150 complaints received so far.

US Ambassador calls on CoAS Sharma

US Ambassador to Nepal Dean Richard Thompson paid a courtesy call on Chief of Army Staff Prabhuram Sharma.

In the meeting held at Nepal Army headquarters, Bhadrakali today, matters of bilateral relations and mutual interest were discussed, according to the NA Directorate of Public Relations and Information.

The NA has also expressed the confidence that such meetings would help strengthen the relationship subsisting between the two countries.

Gold price up by Rs 100

The price of gold increased by Rs 100 on Tuesday.

According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the hallmark gold is being traded at Rs 93,100 per tola.

The yellow metal was traded at Rs. 93,000 on Monday.

NEPSE index gains 56.1 points to close at 1,930.97 on Tuesday

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index gained 56.10 points to close at 1,930.97 points on Tuesday.

The index has posted gains for three straight trading days. The index had gained 16.39 points yesterday.

The index that opened at 1,876.55 points made an intraday low of 1,871.77 points, an intraday high of 1,931.54 points before closing at 1,930.99 points.

A total of 3,971,594 units of 231 companies worth Rs 1.29 billion changed hands through 27,932 transactions today.
