Giri’s demise huge loss to world socialist movement: PM Deuba

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said the demise of leader Pradip Giri has incurred irreparable loss not only to the Nepali Congress but also the global socialist movement.

Addressing a condolence gathering organized jointly by the central working committee of the party and NC Kathmandu district committee on the 13th day of Giri’s passing away on Thursday, President Deuba viewed socialist movement could be propped up if his thoughts and writings were studied and implemented.

“Giri, a learned figure, had voluminous knowledge on democratic socialism after BP Koirala. Whatsoever we talk of him, it is little to his stature and erudition,” he reminded.

According to the PM, Giri got acquainted with the socialist thinkers of India.

“The late Giri was versatile person, a voracious reader. He was willing to put forth his views in the parliament but it was unfortunate we lost him,” he observed, adding he was an honest and devoted leader.
