Seats sharing: NC likely to agree on 86 seats

Nepali Congress (NC), the major party in the five-party ruling coalition, is likely to field its candidacies in 86 constituencies in the November 20 elections to the House of Representatives (HoR).

This means that out of the 165 seats, NC is leaving 89 seats for other partners in the alliance.

NC leader Shekhar Koirala holds talks with UML Chair Oli in Balkot

Nepali Congress leader Shekhar Koirala held talks with CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli on Thursday afternoon.

Koirala reached Balkot, Oli’s residence, at a time when the ruling parties are busy holding meetings on the allocation of seats.

UML’s Rajan Bhattarai to contest from Kathmandu Constituency-4

CPN-UML has recommended Rajan Bhattarai as a candidate for the November 20 elections to the House of Representatives from Kathmandu Constituency-4.

Bhattarai’s name was unanimously recommended after another claimant, Nirmal Kuikel withdrew his claim.

Bhattarai was the foreign affairs adviser of the then Prime Minister KP Oli.

UML sets September 7 deadline for recommendation of candidates

CPN-UML has instructed its subordinate committees to recommend the name of candidates within September 7 for the elections to the House of Representatives and Province Assembly scheduled for November 20.

Inter-party directives-5 issued by party Chairperson KP Sharma Oli on August 31 to the decisions of the fourth central committee meeting held on August 26 and 27 has determined September 7 as the deadline for the recommendation of candidates.

Suspended CJ Rana doubts impartiality of impeachment committee lawmakers

Suspended Chief Justice (CJ) Cholendra Shumsher Rana has raised questions over the impartiality of the members of the impeachment recommendation committee parliamentarians.

Giving his statement at the Committee on Thursday, Rana asked the lawmakers whether they were impartial and that those lawmakers who proposed impeachment against him were in the committee.

“How could someone who proposed impeachment can be a member of the recommendation committee?” Rana asked.

Lawmakers draw govt’s attention towards urgency to prevent dengue from spreading

Lawmakers have demanded that the government take urgent steps toward controlling the spread of dengue in various parts of the country.

Airing their views in the ‘zero hour’ of the meeting of the National Assembly, the upper house of the Federal Parliament, today, they said that dengue is spreading in many districts including in the Kathmandu Valley and the government should take prompt steps to control it.

Nepal records 269 new coronavirus cases, one death in past 24 hours

Nepal recorded a total of 269 new cases of coronavirus and one death in the past 24 hours as of Thursday.

According to the Ministry of Health, one person died from Coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

With this, the number of deaths due to Covid-19 has reached 12 thousand 2 so far.
