KHOTANG: The Diktel-Jayaram road under the Mid-Hill Highway has been obstructed by a landslide near Mahadevsthan in Halesi Tuwachung Municipality-7. The road has been disrupted by continuous rain for some days, said the municipality.

As a result, trucks laden with goods and passenger vehicles heading from Diktel to their destinations like Kathmandu, Udayapur, Itahari, Dharan, Biratnagar and Kakadvitta have been stuck midway, said Raj Kumar Hingmang, general secretary of the Khotang Transport Pvt. Ltd.

The municipality has sent an excavator to the incident site to remove the landslide debris, said Kamal Giri, ward chair of the municipality-7.

All the rural roads linking Diktel Bazaar, the main trading hub of the district, remain obstructed due to the debris flow and landslide that have occurred with the start of the monsoon.

Passengers travelling to and from Diktel Bazaar to the Tarai districts and the federal capital, Kathmandu, are compelled to walk for hours to reach their destinations after all the fair-weather rural roads were disrupted in the district.

Vehicular traffic had been operating only on the Mid-hills highway before it was disrupted. However, vehicles can be operated on the rural roads linking all the 10 local levels in the district in the winter. (RSS)
