Container with 250 sacks of opium under police control



NEPALGUNJ: Banke police seized 250 sacks full of opium seeds from a container on Friday morning.

According to District Police Office Banke, 250 bags of opium seeds were seized from a closed container with Indian number plate RJ 09 GB 4542 heading to Rupadiha from Nepalgunj via Jamunaha.

A joint team led by Armed Police Force Inspector Jeevan Lal Budha and Nepal Police Senior Deputy Inspector Madhav Rijal seized 250 bags of opium seeds (poster seeds) weighing 25 kg each from the container at Jamunah.

“Based on the information that illegal material was being transported, we had maintained strict surveillance at the check post. While we were checking the driver of RJ 09 GB 4542 ran away, we found the truck laden with opium seeds,” he said.

The market price of the seized opium seeds is Rs 50,000 per 25 kg sack.
