Ministry of Finance decides to reduce infrastructure tax on diesel and petrol

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Finance has decided to reduce the infrastructure tax levied on diesel and petrol.

According to Finance Ministry sources, the Ministry has decided to reduce the infrastructure tax collected for the Budhigandaki hydropower project after criticism that the price of fuel has gone up.

The government had been levying infrastructure tax on diesel and petrol at the rate of Rs 10 per liter. At present, petrol is priced at Rs 180 per liter and diesel and kerosene at Rs 163 per liter.

The finance ministry on Tuesday reduced the infrastructure tax and sent it to the industry ministry. Accordingly, the price will go down now.

Earlier, speaking at a press conference held at the Ministry on Monday, Finance Minister Janardan Sharma had said that the infrastructure tax would be reduced in the current fiscal year.
