KATHMANDU: The Nepal Army is celebrating Army Day today by organizing various programs across the country.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari will be the chief guest at a special function to be organized at Sainik Manch Tundikhel on the occasion of Shivaratri and Army Day today.

President Bhandari is the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Army.

The Nepal Army has been celebrating Mahashivaratri as Army Day for two decades now.

History shows that the NA has often been socialized in the context of religion and cultures. The logo of Nepal Army containing a trident and damaru, a musical instrument, also further indicates the blend of religion and philosophy.

Since the very past, many army barracks and companies have been named after God and Goddesses. Temples of Goddesses have been constructed on the premises of many army barracks.

The NA offers prayers and worships in the temple almost every day for which a certain budget is allocated.

On the occasion of the day, various cultural programs including parade, artillery display and drill will be conducted in the Tudikhel.
