JSP Chair Bhattarai stresses constitution amendment to institutionalize democracy

KATHMANDU: Chairman of Federal Council of Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has said that amendment of the constitution is necessary to institutionalize democracy.

Addressing a party’s program held for exchanging greetings at Golbazar Municipality-9 in Siraha on Sunday, he said the current constitution did not encompass all classes, regions, communities and genders and it ought to be amended to make it universally acceptable. Many new cadres also joined the JSP during the occasion.

“In a democracy, all castes, languages, religions, communities and genders should have equal access to state power,” he said.

Stating that only proportional representation in every part of state structure would help the mountains, hills and the Terai to march ahead unitedly, Bhattarai said his party’s goal was to establish a new federal system by amending the constitution.
