Leaders start announcing candidacies as Gen Convention approaches

KATHMANDU: The general convention election fever has caught the ruling Nepali Congress (N) and main opposition CPN-UML. With the announcement of the date of general convention to be held in November, the leaders have announced candidatures for the general election.

NC Vice President Bimalendra Nidhi has already announced his candidacy for the post of President. Similarly, NC Central Member Gagan Thapa has also announced his candidacy for the post of General Secretary.

It is almost certain that NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba will file his candidacy for the post of president. Similarly, efforts are underway to seek a common candidate for the post of president from the Poudel faction.

However, a consensus on the candidate in the Poudel faction is yet to be fixed. Senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel, General Secretary Shashanka Koirala, Prakashman Singh, Shekhar Koirala have been claiming for the post of president.

Similarly, General Secretary Ishwor Pokharel has claimed for the post of the chairman of CPN-UML.

General Secretary Pokharel has announced his candidature at a time when it is being analyzed that no one will challenge the current chairman KP Oli at the General Convention.
