Senior classical dancer Ranjit dies at 78



KATHMANDU: Senior classical dancer Hanuman Das Ranjit has died. Ranjit, who had been receiving treatment for kidney problems, died on July 25, said a family source. He was 78.

Founder of the Araniko Cultural Society, Ranjit has immensely contributed to cultural dance in Nepal and foreign countries.

He got training in various types of dances including cultural dance, Bharat Natyam, and Kathakali from Mumbai in India.

He spent around half a century of his life in the development and expansion of cultural dance in Nepal, said senior journalist Dhurba Thapa, a close friend of Ranjit.

A resident of Patan in the Lalitpur district, he was honored with the ‘Gorkha Dakshinbahu’ fourth class. He is survived by a wife and two sons.
