Dev work meaningless unless it benefits locals: NC Bhaktapur District Secy Dhungel

KATHMANDU: Chairman of Katunje Sewerage Management Committee Nishan Dhungel has said that a development work will have no meaning unless locals realize that it has been done for their benefits.

Speaking at a program organized by Tribeni Tole Sudhar Samaj in Katunje in Bhaktapur on Saturday morning,  Dhungel, who is also the Nepali Congress Bhaktapur District Secretary, said, “The government must carry out a development work in such a way that the locals will directly benefit from it.”

He further said even though the government has declared Suryabinayak area as the municipality, there are so many infrastructures to be built to convert it into a city.

The work of laying hume pipes in Katunje area under the sewerage management project will soon start once the monsoon subsides, said Dhungel.

Federal Water Supply and Sewerage Management Project has been undertaking sewerage management works in wards no 5 and 6 of Suryabinayak municipality after preparing a Detailed Project Reprt (DPR).

Following Dhungel’s briefing on the sewerage management, Dr Taranath Ghimire, Assistant Professor at Tribhuvan University, suggested that it would be more cost effective and systematic if the power lines were laid underground while laying the hume pipes.

According to Prakash Dhungel, the secretary of Katunje Sewerage Management Committee, the agreement has been reached between Federal Water Supply and Sewerage Management Project and Amar Construction P. Ltd.  According to the agreement, the project should have started from July 27 and must be completed in the next two years.

Similarly, Govinda Osti, the chairman of Tribeni Youth Club, underlined the need that the project should be started as early as possible.

Ganesh Ghimire, the chairman of Tribeni Tole Sudhar Samaj, chairman of Gattekulo Water Supply Management Committee Ranjan Dhungel, residents of Tribeni Sudhar Samaj among others were present in the program.

The program was run and coordinated by Chiranjibi Pokharel, the secretary of Tribeni Tole Sudhar Samaj.
