KATHMANDU: Opposition alliance candidate Drigha Narayan Pandey has defeated UML candidate Chandra Bahadur Khadka in the Lumbini National Assembly by-election held Monday.

Pandey secured 42 votes of the Provincial Assembly (PA) members and 118 votes of chiefs and deputy chief of local levels. Similarly, Khadka got 40 votes of PA members and 94 votes of chiefs and deputy chief of local levels.

One vote from among PA members and two votes from among chiefs and deputy chief turned invalid. As many as 297 votes of the total 300 votes were cast in the by-election.
