Supreme Court Justices’ meeting underway

KATHMANDU: All 13 judges on roster are holding discussion at Supreme Court in Kathmandu Monday afternoon.

According to sources, the agenda of discussion is Justices’ Tej Bahadur KC and Bam Kumar Shrestha’s decision of not recusing themselves from the Constitutional Bench on the House of Representatives dissolution case, despite petitioners objecting to their assignment to the bench.

The two justices, who refused to leave the bench, conveyed their decision to three other justices of the Constitutional Bench: Chief Judge Cholendra Shumsher Rana, Justices Deepak Kumar Karki and Ananda Mohan Bhattarai.

CJ Rana had held a meeting among the five judges Sunday after lawyers raised questions on the composition of the bench for including KC and Shrestha.

The meeting of 13 Justices is being held Monday afternoon as KC and Shrestha have decided to stay on the bench even as Bhattarai and Karki suggested the duo to leave and Chief Justice Rana leaving the decision upto the duo.
