World Bank projects Nepal’s GDP at 2.7% in 2020-21

KATHMANDU: The World Bank has projected Nepal’s Gross Domestic Project (GDP) at 2.7 percent for the fiscal year 2020-2021.

The economic activities were badly affected in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, rendering tens of thousands of Nepali people jobless both at home and abroad.

Despite the COVID-19 vaccine being manufactured by various companies, Nepal has not still felt fully secure from the pandemic as the cases are still on the increase.

Largely dependent on the remittance, many Nepali migrant workers who returned home jobless due to the pandemic have not been able to return for foreign employment.

Similarly, South Asia Focus published by the World Bank has projected the economic growth rate of South Asia at 7.2 percent in 2021 and 4.4 in 2022.
